AARP-VI Recognizes Barbara Walsh for Her Commitment to Community Service

AARP in The Virgin Islands

AARP in the Virgin Islands has selected Barbara Walsh to receive the 2021 AARP in The Virgin Islands Andrus Award for Community Service, the association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

AARP in The Virgin Islands selected Walsh for her remarkable service, greatly benefiting the V.I. communities, reflecting AARP’s vision and mission, and inspiring other volunteers.

She has improved pedestrian transportation in the territory by advocating and working on behalf of Virgin Islanders for parks, trails, bike lanes and sidewalks to be constructed and developed, thereby creating healthy, livable communities.

The award will be formally presented to Walsh at a ceremony late in the fall.

“This award acts as a symbol to the public that we can all work together for positive social change,” said Troy de Chabert-Schuster.  “AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors and the programs they serve.”

Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
