Police Investigating Apparent Drowning at Hawksnest Beach

Police are investigating the apparent drowning of a 77-year-old Chicago man on Tuesday at Hawksnest Beach on St. John.

Officers responding to a 911 call of a possible drowning about 3:25 p.m., Tuesday, found four people performing CPR on a man they said had been snorkeling at the beach, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The man was transported to the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center via ambulance for further treatment, but later died at the clinic, police said.

The man was identified by next of kin as Brian Kosmal of Chicago, Illinois, police said.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, police said.
