Suspect Shot by Police on STJ Charged with Assaulting Woman

Alex Louis Camsel, a 46-year-old resident of Estate Pastory on St. John, was arrested immediately after his release from Schneider Regional Medical Center on Tuesday after being treated for a gunshot wound.

According to the V.I. Police Department, Camsel had been shot by police after he pointed a firearm at officers on April 23. He is charged with two counts of third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and damage to a vehicle.

Camsel is accused of assaulting a female victim by hitting her with a rock on April 23. The victim, whose name has not been released by police in accordance with department policy, required medical attention at the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center for her injuries from the assault.

Officers responding to the location of the assault observed Camsel in possession of a rifle. Camsel was shot by an officer when he pointed the rifle at officers. The VIPD has declined to identify the officer who shot Camsel.

Bail for Camsel was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending his advice of rights hearing.
