Californian Sentenced for Smuggling Marijuana to St. Thomas

Nathaniel Robinson, 29, of Montclair, California, was sentenced Thursday to two years probation and fined $1,000 for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.

According to court documents, Robinson was stopped at the Cyril E. King airport after arriving in St. Thomas from Miami, Florida. Customs and Border Protection officers then searched his luggage and found seven vacuum-sealed bags containing three kilograms of marijuana, according to the records.

The Department of Homeland Security Investigations and Customs and Border Protection investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle R. Payne prosecuted the case.
