Frederiksted 19-Year-Old Charged with Firearm Possession

 

A 19-year-old Frederiksted resident was arrested Friday morning and charged with carrying a firearm openly or concealed.

According to police, Ian Benjamin, age 19 of Queen Street, Frederiksted, was arrested at 5:25 a.m. Friday.

The V.I. Police Department report said that while executing a search warrant at his residence, officers discovered an unlicensed firearm. Benjamin admitted he owned the firearm and was placed under arrest.

Bail for Benjamin was set at $50,000. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
