St. Thomas Woman Injured by Gunfire

A woman was treated for an injury to her hand early Monday after being injured by gunfire at her home, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police at about 12:52 a.m., Jan. 4 an adult female reported being shot in Contant.

The victim, whose name was not released by police in accordance with department policy, told officers that she was entering her residence with her boyfriend when gunshots were heard. After realizing she had been shot, the victim asked a neighbor to call 911.

She was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of a gunshot wound to her left hand.

Officers on the scene observed and collected spent shell casings and a firearm near the residence, which police said will aid in the investigation. Police urged anyone with information about what happened to call 911, the VIPD at 340-774-2211 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).
