A man injured in an assault Sunday morning in Contant was treated for his injuries at the Schneider Regional Medical Center. Sunday evening, police arrested a suspect in the assault.
According to police, at about 7 a.m. on Oct. 4, officers were dispatched to Contant, where they found a man with a laceration to the throat. The victim was transported to hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injury.
Police said the victim identified his assailant as Allen “Buckwheat” Samuel.
At about 5:09 p.m. Sunday police apprehended Samuel, age 46 of Estate Altona. He was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and use of a dangerous weapon.
Bail was set at $75,000. Samuel was unable to post bail, and was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
“Sgt. Dwight Griffith of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and his team followed up on citizens’ tips on the whereabouts of the subject, who was found later that day,” said Chief Steven Philip of the VIPD St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island District. “Community members are taking action and helping us to be a safer community.”
