Owner of Security Company Accidentally Shoots Himself in Leg

The V.I. Police Department is investigating an apparent accidental shooting that took place Sunday morning in Estate St. Georges on St. Croix.

According to the police, at 9:26 a.m. Oct. 4, officers were dispatched to a residence in Estate St. Georges in reference to an apparent gunshot victim.

At the residence, officers made contact with an adult male who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The man, the owner of a security company, told police he was unloading his firearms to secure them when the firearm he was handling accidentally went off, striking him in the leg.

The victim’s name was not released, pursuant to VIPD policy.

The victim was transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Police are investigating the case and urged anyone with information on the incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950 or Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
