Jahritza Johnson, a 20-year-old resident of Harbor View Apartments on St. Croix, was arrested Friday afternoon after an altercation with a neighbor led to shots being fired, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to police, the arrest took place at 3:23 p.m. Oct. 2.
Police accused Johnson of brandishing a firearm during an altercation with a neighbor and firing a shot through the closed front door of the neighbor’s apartment, endangering the occupants, including children.
Johnson was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm openly or concealed, possession of ammunition, discharging or aiming a firearm, and destruction of property.
Her bail was set at $100,000, which she was not able to post. She was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending her Advice of Rights hearing.
St. Croix Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe commended officers for the swift arrest in this incident. He also urged the community to seek alternate ways of resolving disputes.
“We should be able to talk through our differences. Resorting to violence is not the solution,” Elskoe said.
