Unresponsive Male Found in Water Off St. Thomas

An unresponsive male was found in the waters off St. Thomas Monday afternoon, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police at 3:19 p.m. Sept. 21, the 911 emergency call center received a call from a female on a vessel stating that an unresponsive male had been pulled out of the ocean between Sapphire Beach and Lovango Cay.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unresponsive Black male lying on his back on the back of the vessel. A nurse aboard the vessel concluded that the male had no vital signs. There was no apparent sign of foul play, but the investigation continues.

The identity of the male was being withheld until next of kin could be notified. The cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy.
