A 26-year-old St. Thomas man was shot and killed early Thursday in the Tutu area, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The victim was identified by next of kin as Shaq’kil Roberts.
According to the police report, at 1:47 a.m. Thursday the 911 emergency call center received a call from a concerned citizen that shots had been fired in the Tutu area. Officers traveled to the area and found an unresponsive black male on the ground. The man was later identified as Roberts.
The victim appeared to have sustained multiple gunshots to the body. Emergency medical technicians on scene concluded that he did not have any vital signs.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5569 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
It was the eighth homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, and the fourth this month. It also was the 15th in the territory, according to the Source homicide list. The Source list is based on VIPD reports, but unlike the police and other media, the Source does not include suicides or vehicular homicides, which sometimes cause a disparity in the numbers reported.
