Two men from Florida were charged in federal district court on St. Thomas on separate charges of attempting to smuggle marijuana into the U.S. Virgin Islands, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.
The charged were announced Tuesday in two separate news release which did not indicate any connection between the two case.
Nathaniel Robinson made his initial appearance in federal court Monday.
According to the affidavit filed in the case, Robinson was stopped at the Cyril E. King airport after arriving in St. Thomas from Miami. Officers from Customs and Border Protection searched his luggage and found approximately three kilograms of marijuana.
Sheldon Stuart Isles also made his initial appearance in federal court, also on Monday on St. Thomas.
According to the affidavit filed in the case, Isles was stopped at the Cyril E. King airport after arriving in St. Thomas from Miami. CBP officers then searched his luggage and found approximately 15 kilograms of marijuana.
Both cases are being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Payne.
