Man Injured in Estate Fortuna Motorcycle Accident

A 42-year-old man from Lindbergh Bay on St. Thomas was treated for head injuries, and other injuries, after he lost control of his motorcycle Saturday while trying to avoid an oncoming car and hit a wall, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to police, at approximately 5:26 p.m. Saturday the 911 emergency call center was notified of a motorcycle accident in the vicinity of the Fortuna Townhouses.

The operator of the motorcycle, whose name was withheld pursuant to department policy, was conscious at the Schneider Regional Medical Center when officers responded to the report. He told police he was traveling on the roadway and saw a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road. He attempted to avoid a head-on collision with the vehicle and lost control of his motorcycle, hitting a wall.

The injured motorcycle rider was transported to the hospital via private vehicle.

According to police the man was not wearing protective headgear and received injuries to his head and other parts of his body as a result of the crash. He was listed in stable condition as of Sunday morning, and arrangements were being made for him to be flown out of the territory for further medical treatment.

Police said the accident is under investigation. VIPD urged anyone with information on the incident to call 911 or the Traffic Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211.
