STJ Man Suffers Gunshot Injury in Attempted Robbery

A man was treated for a gunshot injury and was in stable condition as of 3 p.m. Tuesday after a shooting in an attempted robbery on St. John.

According to the V.I. Police Department, at 1:54 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the Myra Keating Smith Clinic in Cruz Bay in reference to a gunshot victim.

The victim, whose name was not released by police, was walking to his residence when an unknown individual wearing a black ski mask attempted to rob him of his jewelry at gunpoint, the police said. The victim and suspect struggled for the weapon and a single gunshot went off, injuring the victim. The suspect fled the scene.
