Crime of the Week: Crime Stoppers Doubles Rewards for Drug, Gun Tips

The anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, is offering a minimum $5,000 reward for tips on homicides that lead to arrests. It will also double rewards for drug and gun tips on Jan. 15.

This week’s Crime of the Week cases are a pair of St. Croix homicides.

– At 8:48 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, a male individual entered the Peace and Love Bar in downtown Christiansted and opened fire on a female bartender, then ran out of the establishment. The bartender, who was identified by next of kin as 44-year-old Juana Mateo Perez, was struck multiple times and died on the scene.

There were patrons at the bar when the incident occurred.

– On Sept. 29, 2018, Ulcier Nehemiah Crump, 33, also known as Brandon Nesbett, was shot to death in El Rincon Bar, Queen Street, Frederiksted. According to the police report, at about 10:45 p.m. 911 received a report of a shooting at El Rincon Bar. Upon arrival, investigators determined that Crump had been in the bar when someone entered and fired multiple shots, striking Crump in the upper body. The shooter then fled the area on foot.

Emergency medical technicians at the scene were unable to resuscitate the victim. Crump apparently had no relatives on island.
