North Carolina Man Drowns off Buck Island

A 62-year-old man from North Carolina drowned Wednesday in the area of Buck Island,

according to the V.I. Police Department.

At about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, the Major Crime Unit was notified about a possible drowning in the area of Buck Island. Upon arrival, detectives found individuals performing CPR to an unresponsive Caucasian male. The male was then transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for further medical assistance, but he died at the hospital.

Investigation revealed that the victim may have drowned while snorkeling. He was identified as 62-year-old Matthew Brown of North Carolina.

This case is under investigation by the Major Crime Unit. Police urged anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5606, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
