Island-Wide Power Outage on St. Thomas

St. Thomas had an island-wide power outage Saturday morning from 1:20 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. A notice from WAPA indicated the outage “is a result of the loss of generation capacity at the Randolph Harley Power Plant.”

  1. Give wapa back to the government and allow an outside company to open another plant that can serve the people of the V.I. This entity is a money pit. Give it back to the government. They are the one that created this mess. Let them keep their mess and allow us to be free of this albatross around our necks. Unbelievable!

  2. Vialet is calling for protests of the Medicaid cliff we are about to fall off (probably won’t be as bad as all that), but would we ever protest WAPA? We are eerily quiet about the deprivations, damage and extortion we experience daily at WAPA’s hands. How many of us are really affected by WAPA’s rates? It would be interesting to know who pays, and who does not. Kind of like the recent statistics from 2017 where 89 taxpayers, OUT OF 35,000 tax filers pay 66% of income taxes! We need the truth to come out. Perhaps then whatever we have been suspecting, might finally be proven to be true, and THEN we might vent our outrage.

  3. When is this CRAP going STOP?
Every three weeks this WAPA thing happens. No electricity, no reason, but we the customers have to pay this extreme exaborate ridiculous increase of a bill. For crying out loud the place is extremely hot, people are still not in sound structures our appliances are being destroyed by frequent outages. We have with babies, infants, elderly and the disabled persons living on this island – which most are living in post stress related situations because of Hurricanes Irma & Maria. However, we are in that peak season again, wait a minute -‘ was that a practice drill for our hurricanes this year or just a terrific measure of how much more can we tell the people of this community they have to pay? Man, please with all your new recipes for a better WAPA please lessen the costs and burdens of customers it’s enough. DON’T YOU THINK?!. Governor and Senators what was the Thesis of you’re election report? ” CHANGE COURSE NOW? Let’s see if you can gave us a better knowledge of understanding.

  4. If only an act of God would put WAPA and us out of our misery. The recent earthquake was a taste of what the earth is capable of. If only it could be a direct hit on WAPA. I fear the ONLY way we will be relieved of this tiresome and extortionate burden is to start over.
