Fire Service, Public Works Join Forces to Clean Up Bus Stop

Administrator Lewis, center, is shown with St. Thomas Fire Chief David Hodge, Deputy Chief Eustace Hodge and two firefighters who helped with the clean-up.

The V.I. Fire Service (VIFS) has partnered with the V.I. Department of Public Works (DPW) to adopt the bus stop in Altona on St. Thomas, according to St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator Avery Lewis. On Saturday, May 25, the Fire Service galvanized its team and resources, and cleaned and painted the bus stop. The two departments reached out to Lewis and pledged to adopt a bus stop and beautify the shed.

On Saturday, VIFS personnel pressure-washed and scrubbed the structure shortly after 7 a.m.; by 1 p.m. the fresh coat of paint already was drying, Lewis said.

โ€œAs administrator I want to thank the leadership and the hardworking men and women of the V.I. Fire Service for stepping up to the plate and contributing to the Virgin Islands and assisting to bring back VI PRIDE,โ€ he said, while thanking the Fire Service and Public Works for their efforts.

โ€œI want to challenge other agencies or private businesses to adopt certain areas and maintain them. Letโ€™s work together as we rebuild our home.โ€
