V.I. National Soccer Team’s J.C. Mack Signs With Icelandic League

J.C. Mack

The Virgin Islands National Soccer Team captain signed a two-year contract with Vikingur Reykjavík in the Icelandic Pepsi League yesterday. This makes J.C. Mack the highest-level footballer in Virgin Islands history. J.C. Mack is looking forward to bringing his experience and expertise back home to the V.I., specifically for home games that will be played in the new soccer stadium on St. Croix.

On the honor of being chosen for one of the three spaces in each team allotted for non-European players, Mack said, “It is cold, it is wet, and the preseason quite long. You may be overlooked for quicker or cheaper options, tackles against you will be heavy, and your grit will be tested. However, scoring goals against the highest-level clubs in this country has joy that you will not feel outside of Europe.

Your ability to bring something to the game that cannot be found on the island (Iceland) is the highest respect a club can show to an artist or tradesman. This country provides such a lovely platform to express yourself. Embrace it, enjoy it, and never forget that no matter what team you play for, no one is safe when you’re in the game. Stay strong fam and enjoy your craft.”

In September 2018, J.C. Mack made his debut for the U.S. Virgin Islands national team during their loss to Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League. In addition to playing for the V.I., the 30-year-old striker, has played with Selfoss and Vestra in Iceland, France’s Tourcoing, Chicago Fire, Charleston Battery, and Ekeanas SC in the United States over the course of his career. He has participated in 73 games at the Icelandic Championship and has scored 24 goals.
