More than a year after suffering damage in the 2017 hurricanes that destroyed so much int he territory, St. Thomas’s long-time accommodations fixture, Point Pleasant Resort, threw a celebration to celebrate its reconstruction that turned disaster into a serious upgrade.
Property manager Larry Stokes began the cleanup and repair almost as soon as Hurricane Maria passed from the area, bringing in award-winning hotelier Jahmed Mills.
On Dec. 17, Stokes and Mills hosted a party at the refurbished resort to let the community see the fruits of their labor.
Guests were served refreshing drinks and hors d’ouvre from the rebuilt Shoreline Bar and Grill. Even the relatively new Mirador Restaurant got a makeover and is ready to serve “international cuisine with a Caribbean flair.”
Resort guests and locals gathered to party in the “Captain’s Quarters” and on the deck overlooking the British Virgin islands and Coki Point. Many got to tour the newly refreshed rooms, all of which sit under new roofing and are brightened by just-replaced sliders.
“Our rooms are far from traditional resort accommodations,” Mills said. “We planned them to be a home away from home with all those important items, big and small that people need.”
Stokes praised the exterior.
“The updated pool furniture adds a new level of elegance and the landscaping is more beautiful than we hoped for,” he said.
A ribbon cutting was followed by dancing, dining and drinking toasts to all involved.
Point Pleasant has extended its discounted room prices to locals in hopes of making the resort a “local get-away,” as long as rooms are available.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, the word is spelled ‘pleasant.’ Normally wouldn’t care enough to comment, but it was in the headline for the story. Nice article though!
Despite the views and nice units. Point Pleasant is an unpleasant place headed up by a bunch of crooks. Hopefully, the new manager, Mr. Jahmed Mills, can bring some decency to the place.
