It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Matriarch, Mrs. Idalia Hodge Knight, also known as “GiGi” or “Ms. Dally.” Mrs. Knight was born on July 4, 1925 and passed away on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018.
Mrs. Knight retired from Boolchand’s on Main Street after many years. She enjoyed life and loved all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their spouses. She was dedicated to Wesley Methodist Church, her church home, the 6:30 a.m. Choir and the Ecumenical Craft Club. She sincerely loved promoting church events and serving others by selling cake and other goods.
She is survived by her children: Millicent Hodge Gumbs of N.Y., Jennifer F. Knight of Va., Warren S. Knight and Wayne C. Knight; sister, Susan Robinson of N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Natalie M. Knight; sisters-in-law: Delphine Robinson and Alpha Robinson; granddaughters: Nailah Gumbs-Fahie, Yasmeen Gumbs-Breakenridge, Kasima Idalia Hodge, Jessica Joseph, Jelisa Joseph, Nioka Blaize, Christina Vessup and Shatel Maccabee; and grandsons: Jeremy Joshua Knight and Jordan Joshua Knight.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Robert Rosario, Adalia Fahie, Saige Breakenridge, Kalycia Hodge, Kamir Hodge, Kahlid Hodge, Kahmil Hodge, Nikkiesha Blaize, Nikkieyah Blaize, Nikkio Blaize, Nikkiejah Blaize, Malakhi Maccabee, Uriah Maccabee; grandsons-in-law: Tyrone E. Hodge, Dion Fahie and Joseph Breakenridge; and nieces: Ellina Turnbull, Gerda Molyneaux, Patricia Thomas, Alicia Smith, Wandamae Robinson-Malone, Shirley Robinson, Sandra Robinson, Charlene Petersen, Candis Petersen and Barbara Petersen.
Other survivors include nephews: Tyrone Robinson, Junito Turnbull, Roosevelt Turnbull, Carlos Turnbull, Calvin Robinson Sr., Wayne Robinson Sr., Arnold Petersen and Dr. Bert Petersen; goddaughter, Janice Smith; godson, Henry “Tommy” Rymer; adopted sons: Howard Jones and Wilbert Joseph Jr; pen pal, Jahmoy Martin; special friends: Jane Johannis, Lydia Blyden, Elecia Parson, Cynthia Weeks, Carlos Woods, Arrestele Richardson, Elaine Fahie, Lorna Vanterpool, Dorothy Maduro, William Harvey and Evangeline Gruel.
A public viewing will take place at 5 p.m., at Turnbull’s Funeral Home on Thursday, June 21.
The Celebration of Life will be held at the Wesley Methodist Church on Friday, June 22. The viewing will be at 9 a.m. and the service begins at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being placed in the care of Turnbull’s Funeral Home.
The Fast Ferry will leave Roadtown, Tortola, BVI at 7 a.m. and return from Charlotte Amalie at 4:15 p.m.
