District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez on Friday sentenced Robert Brown, 28, to four years in prison and three years of supervised release in a case resulting from the 2013 robbery of a St. Thomas jewelry store.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert, Gomez also ordered Brown to perform 400 hours of community service and pay a special assessment of $100.
On Jan. 4 Brown pleaded guilty to a single charge of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery.
Brown had been charged Oct. 20, 2017, as the result of an investigation into Hobbs Act robbery of Gems and Gold Corner Jewelry Store on St. Thomas, Sept. 16, 2013.
According to the charging information, Brown and other individuals conspired to rob this jewelry store and brandished weapons to threaten and intimidate the storeowner.
The case resulted from an investigation by the FBI and the Virgin Islands Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anna A. Vlasova and Kim L. Chisholm.
