Corrections Officer Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash

An officer for the Bureau of Corrections died Christmas morning in a single-vehicle collision on the Melvin H. Evans Highway, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The VIPD identified the victim as 32-year-old Corrections Officer Vivian Ford.

At 6:58 a.m. Monday, officers from the Traffic Division responded to a call from 911 emergency center. in regards to single car collision. At the scene, the officers saw a single male individual trapped in a black four-door Toyota Camry.

According to police, preliminary investigation revealed that vehicle was traveling east on the Evans Highway when the collision occurred. Upon impact, the vehicle was located on the highway west of the Sunny Isle light’s eastbound lane intersection.

“It is real sad losing an officer in this untimely passing,” Bureau of Corrections Director Rick Mullgrav said. “On behalf of the Bureau of Corrections and myself, we extend our deepest condolences to family and friends of officer Vivian Ford.”
