Man Shot and Killed Near Home Depot

A 48-year-old St. Thomas man was shot and killed Sunday night near the Home Depot in Charlotte Amalie, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified by next of kin as Don A. Richards of Anna’s Retreat. It was the seventh homicide on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the eighth in the territory.

Police provided few details as to the circumstances of the crime. According to the police report, a man called 911 at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday to report he had heard several shots fired in the area of Home Depot and that a male was lying down on the ground.

Responding officers found an unresponsive black male lying face down at a grassy area adjacent to the roadway leading to Home Depot. The man, later identified as Richards, had suffered what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.

The emergency medical technicians arrived on the scene and pronounced him deceased.
