Infant Killed, Man Injured by Shooting in Contant Knolls

A 17-month-old girl died Wednesday night when she was struck by a bullet during a shooting in Contant Knolls, the V.I. Police Department reported.

It was the 29th homicide on St. Thomas confirmed by the V.I. Police Department, the 40th in the territory.

An adult male was injured in the incident, police said.

According to the police, officers were dispatched at 9:44 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a shooting in the rear of Contant Knolls.

At the scene found a man, woman and the child. According to the report, the three were on their way home when shots were fired towards their vehicle.

The man was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment for a gunshot wound to the right thigh and buttock. At approximately 10:50 p.m., the infant was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to her left chest.

The incident is under investigation by the Homicide Task Force and Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police urged anyone with information regarding the attack to contact the Homicide Task Force at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579 and 5557, the chief’s office at 340-715-5548, the 911 emergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers V.I., at 1-800-222-8477.
