The Virgin Islands Carnival Committee on Monday announced a centennial-based theme for the 2017 Carnival.
The winning entry is “A Centennial Commemoration for our 65th Carnival Celebration.”
The entry was submitted by Clement “Cain” Magras.
According to the announcement from the V.I. Carnival Committee, the theme "clearly recognizes what will be a grand celebration of the Virgin Islands’ largest cultural event." It recognizes that in 2017 the territory will celebrate Carnival’s 65th anniversary and the the 100th anniversary of the transfer from Danish to American citizenship.
For his winning entry, Magras will receive a Carnival 2017 season pass to all V.I. Carnival Committee sponsored events. His winning theme will be used at all V.I. Carnival events and will be posted, along with his name, in the Carnival booklet.
Carnival will be held April 1 through 29.
