Subbase Shooting Victim Dies of Injuries

A man who was shot several times Monday afternoon in the Subbase area died of his wounds Tuesday at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to police, the victim was 23-year-old De’Jani Chitolie of St. Thomas.

Police units responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 4:54 p.m. Monday, then to the hospital where Chitolie had been transferred. He was unresponsive when officers arrived at the hospital.

He underwent surgery and at 11:20 p.m. Monday police reported he was out of the operating room in stable condition.

However, at approximately 3:25 a.m. he succumbed to his injuries.

It was the 27th homicide that the VIPD has confirmed on St. Thomas since the beginning of the year, the 38th in the territory.
