Woman Drowns at Magens Bay Beach

A 25-year-old woman drowned Thursday afternoon at Magens Bay Beach, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified as Sherita Maxine Carty.

According to the police report, at 5:07 p.m. Thursday officers were dispatched by 911 to Magens Bay Beach in response to a report of a woman drowning. Bystanders told the officers a woman had been snorkeling and was found out at sea floating face down.

Lifeguard on the scene as well as bystanders performed numerous rounds of chest compressions before EMT and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene but they were unsuccessful in reviving her.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, where they continued attempts at CPR, but the victim was lifeless and pronounced dead by medical staff.
