Salvation Army, FirstBank Help Students Get Ready for School Year

The Salvation Army and FirstBank recently partnered on a Back to School Backpack Distribution to provide school supplies to students in need who would otherwise head back to school unprepared.
Through the partnership, the organizations were able to provide 150 students on St. Thomas from elementary to high school with backpacks filled with pencils, pencil cases, composition notebooks, erasers, rulers, scissors, folders and other school essentials to prepare them for the 2016-2017 school year.
A similar drive will be held on St. Croix this week. In addition to a monetary donation to each Salvation Army unit – St. Thomas and St. Croix FirstBank employees also assisted with the stuffing of the backpacks. Backpacks were distributed to parents and students at the Salvation Army office on St. Thomas on Aug. 31. A total of 300 students will benefit from this initiative on both islands.
The Salvation Army has been part of the V.I. community since 1917. By partnering with community agencies such as the Salvation Army, FirstBank ensures that their philanthropic efforts are channeled to where they are needed most — at the local level where the company operates.
