Ronald Russell: Media and Community Must Refocus on the Issues

It appears the media has bought into the distraction of the allegations that should be left to the law enforcement authorities. The media have become complicit in making the Delegate race a one issue campaign. “It is time to refocus the public’s attention to the significance of the differences between the current Delegate and my candidacy,” stated Candidate Ronald Russell.
“I question the Delegate’s judgment in hastily removing the Virgin Islands from the PROMESA Puerto Rico reconstruction act.” said Russell. “A more mature approach would have been to carve out a section of that bill that would specifically address the Virgin Islands and its debts, particularly focussing on public pension and possibly revamping the Diageo deal to dedicate cover over funds to our retirement plan. Indeed, because of the lack of vision the opportunity to have a comprehensive debt restructuring plan for the Virgin Islands was lost. In addition, her continued failure to address the woefully inadequate guidelines for determining financial eligibility for certain federal programs that benefit hardworking Virgin Islanders can be considered neglect.”
Candidate Russell believes that “shortsighted decisions have long-term ramifications and, without clear thinking and a collective effort with the elected leadership to deal with issues such as crime, energy, budget and inter island transportation, we are now facing critical decisions without leadership from the Delegate position.”
He continues, “I will transform the role of the Delegate and I deserve equal time and a fair opportunity to be heard. I look forward to addressing the real issues in the Delegate Debate scheduled for August 2 on WTJX.”
