14-Year-Old Hurt in Bovoni Drive By

A 14-year-old boy was injured slightly by a gunshot in a drive-by shooting in Bovoni Saturday morning, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Offices were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center at 1:40 p.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot victim being treated, police said.

The victim, a 14-year-old boy, told the officers that at 11 a.m. he was in the vicinity of the Purple Shop in Bovoni when a vehicle drove by and began firing shots at him and two of his friends. He said they all began to run and he later realized that one of his fingers was bleeding. He wrapped his finger in some napkins, he told police, and caught a Safari taxi to the hospital for treatment.

The victim told officers he did not see the type of vehicle that was driven nor who fired the shots.

The boy sustained a single gunshot wound to his left thumb. He was treated for his injury and was released by the hospital.
