A man arrested Friday in the shooting death Thursday of 66-year-old Randolph Rabstatt told police he acted in self-defense.
At about 8:11 p.m. Thursday the 911 emergency call center received a report of an assault victim in the vicinity of Savan.
Upon arrival to the scene, officer’s found an unresponsive male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, lying motionless on the ground. The victim was later identified as Rabsatt, of Ukle Gade.
At 1 p.m. Friday, officers were dispatched to the Schneider Regional Medical Center in response to a report of a man being treated for lacerations sustained during an assault that had occurred in the vicinity of Savan.
According to the report, the victim indicated that he was attacked by an individual with a knife on Thursday behind the former “Greeting and Things” store on Backstreet. The victim said he fired shots toward his attacker in self-defense.
JA’ Heil Francis, 19 of Agnes Fancy, was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm. Bail for Francis was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advise of rights hearing.
