Diver Drowns Near Water Island

Warren Thomas Murphy, 65, a longtime resident of St. Thomas, drowned Friday while taking part in diving excursion, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The 911 emergency call center received notification of the incident at 11:08 a.m. Friday. Responding officers were directed to the Coast Guard dock, where they found Murphy’s unresponsive body. He had been listed as dead on arrival.

According to statements from witness, Murphy had been involved in a diving excursion with visiting relatives when he experienced difficulties during the dive, causing him to drown.
