Elections Office Closed for Mold Cleanup

The St. Croix District Elections Office at Sunny Isle Annex will be closed through Wednesday for mold remediation, Elections announced Tuesday.

The mold problem surfaced when Board Chairman Adelbert Bryan called an emergency meeting Jan. 22 to deal with employee concerns about mold contamination in the office. Assistant Supervisor of Elections Genevieve Whitaker said "staff had expressed concern to me about mold on the (registration) books."

Whitaker said mold had been an "ongoing" issue and that, last year, Adcon Environmental Services conducted an air quality survey and made recommendations for actions.

According to Tuesday’s release, the contractor is finalizing the remediation and cleanup of the air ducts and filters.

The office should resume business as usual Thursday, according to the news release. Management apologized for any inconvenience the closure caused but said the cleanup is necessary for both the health and safety of the system’s employees and that of general public.
