St. Croix Native Vialet Promoted to Command Sergeant Major

St. Croix native Roy Vialet was promoted Friday to the rank of command sergeant major of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion in the Virgin Islands National Guard.

The promotion took place Friday morning at the 210th Regiment in the Regional Training Academy cafeteria building in Estate Bethlehem. Vialet was promoted from the rank of master sergeant.

Vialet was born May 10, 1962, on St. Croix. He is a 1980 graduate of St. Croix Central High School and holds two degree from the University of the Virgin Islands. He began his military career by enlisting in the Virgin Islands National Guard on Feb. 6, 1980.

While in the Guard, Vialet served in various units, including the 651st MSA Co, the Virgin Islands Military Academy, HQS TERARC, and now the Recruiting & Retention Battalion.

His military education includes small arms repairman, NCO Battle Skill Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Battle Focus Instructor Course, and State Marksmanship Course.

His awards include Army Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with No. 3, National Defense Service Medal 2nd, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hour Glass and “M” device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal Campaign Star, and the Army National Guard Recruiter Senior Badge.

Vialet was deployed in 2007 with the 651st GS Maintenance Company to Anaconda, Iraq. While there, he and 22 other VI Guardsmen were assigned to the personnel security detachment, where he was the NCOIC. Their primary functions there included the protection of Anaconda’s SGM and General while on Convoy’s. Some of the high profiled individual that Vialet and his crew, called the Bandits, were assigned to protect included the commander of Multinational Force, Iraq, Gen. Ordierno; Gen. Petraeus, the former commander of the multinational force; numerous Iraqi sheiks and Vice President Dick Cheney and his family.

Vialet is married to the former Enid Burnett and is the father of two children, Jemille and Jelena Vialet.
