Man Shot at Oswald Harris, Dies the Next Day

A man identified as 29-year-old Avery Hodge was shot in the Oswald Harris housing community Friday and died about 24 hours later at the Schneider Regional Medical Center, the V.I. Police Department reported Tuesday.

It was the second homicide in the territory in 2014, the first on St. Thomas.

According to the police, officers responded to the report of a shooting shortly after 9 p.m. Friday at the Oswald Harris Court housing community, and found Hodge lying in the archway of Building 20. Police said he appeared to have been shot several times.

The victim was taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Medical personal told police Hodge died from his injuries at 9:41 p.m. Saturday.

Detectives said they have information that several residents were in the area when Hodge was shot. The investigators are urging anyone with information to call them at 1-340-714-9834 or 1-340-715-5522, the 911 emergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crimes Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477
