Yasmeen Massicott, a 35-year-old Bureau of Corrections Officer, was arrested Saturday by V.I. police and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The arrest was announced Monday in news releases from both the police and the Bureau of Corrections.
Police said Massicott was arrested when she tried to bring a paper bag containing 131 grams of marijuana and 16 grams of cocaine into the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility.
According to the preliminary report, Massicott was at work Saturday and went to her car at about 2:30 p.m. She was observed on video camera retrieving a bag from a vehicle in the parking lot and bringing it into the facility.
Massicott told the front desk officer that the bag contained “her lunch,” but when the bag was checked the narcotics were found inside, police said.
According to the BOC, the bag held four bundles of what is suspected to be marijuana and one small clear baggie containing a white powdery substance believed by police to be cocaine.
Massicott was placed under arrest at just before 5 p.m. the same day. Her bail was set at $10,000 and she was held in custody pending her advice of rights hearing. She was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
