Ianthe Benjamin Dies at 85

Ianthe Benjamin Ianthe Benjamin, better known as “Yante,” died on Saturday, Sept. 7, at her residence. She was 85 years old.
She is survived by her sons: Ulric Benjamin Jr. and Ronald Benjamin; daughter, Alda Benjamin; adopted daughter, Margaret Gumbs; adopted son, Roy Sasso; daughter-in-law, Margarita Benjamin; grandchildren: Roy Kuntz, Tymo Knight, Tereek Benjamin, Anika DeGraffe, Neilsa, Latoi, Roynisha, Kianna, Omar, Myles, Leia and Crystel Benjamin; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers: Larry Williams, Ashiel Thomas, Austin, Basil and Darwin Blyden; sisters: Doreen Harley, Eldra Newton, Beryl Fahie and Estelle Wheatley; special niece, Denise Niles.
A first viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, at Davis Funeral Home Chapel. A second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be at Western Cemetery No. 1.
