VIPD Still Hunting Driver in Fatal Hit and Run

Police are still looking for the driver in the fatal hit and run that killed a 59-year-old Naldine Foster-Hector on Aug. 18 in Christiansted.

According to the police report, Hector was walking with her 4-year-old grandson in Christiansted on North Shore Road in the area of the doctors’ offices just west of the District Court when she was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene.

Her grandson was uninjured. He was found by a motorist and taken to the police station.

The vehicle that killed Hector was described by witnesses as a black or dark colored Suzuki Vitara, Grand Vitara or Sidekick, possibly with body damage to the front end. Police have asked all body shops and car repair businesses on St. Croix to call immediately if they see a vehicle fitting this description.

Anyone who may have been driving in the area around that time and saw anything unusual should report it to police immediately. Officers are also asking the person who is involved in this accident to contact a police officer or come to the police station.

This case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Traffic Investigation Unit.

St. Croix Police Chief James Parris thanked the community for their help in trying to track down the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle and promised that officers are still searching.

"We have not located the person responsible as yet, but we are grateful for the many calls we have received with information," Parris said. "Every tip we receive is investigated. We are working with other law enforcement partners and utilizing other resources available to us; I promise that we will leave no stone unturned."

Parris urged the driver to surrender himself.

"I want to encourage the person responsible in this incident to turn yourself in," the chief said. "The initial act was an accident. Your actions since then takes precedent for our actions."

The chief added that assistance from the public resulted in the arrest of a suspect in an unrelated burglary.

"Because of the assistance we have received from the community, a robbery suspect turned himself into the police. He is charged with robbing two women at gunpoint. Our wanted poster and tips from the community caused Martin Isidore to turn himself in."

The chief urged the community to continue being "our added eyes and ears."

"With your assistance, we can make St. Croix a safer place," he said.
