Hit and Run Accident Kills Woman

A woman walking with a young child early Sunday morning in Christiansted was killed when hit by a car that did not stop, the V.I. Police Department said.

The police are searching for the vehicle, described as a black or dark colored Suzuki SUV. The Suzuki vehicle will likely have front-end damage from the accident.

Police said the woman, whose name has not yet been released, was walking at about 5 p.m. with her 4-year-old son or grandson in Christiansted on North Shore Road, in the area of the doctors offices just west of the District Court, when she was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene. The vehicle did not stop.

A concerned citizen found the minor child and brought him to the police station, police said.

The VIPD is asking the entire community to be on the look out for a black or dark colored Suzuki with front-end damage. Anyone who was driving in the area and saw anything unusual can report it to police by calling the 911 emergency dispatch center. All body shops and car repair businesses have been asked to call police immediately upon seeing a vehicle fitting this description.

The case is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Traffic Investigation Unit.
