For the sixth summer in a row, students of Overland Summers have been volunteering at the St. George Village Botanical Garden.
Based in Massachusetts, Overland Summers (www.overlandsummers.com) offers a variety of summer programs spanning the outdoors, service, language and writing to students finishing 4th-12th grade. For 29 years Overland has given thousands of students the opportunity to explore the world in supportive and wholesome groups. Overland offers programs that provide experiences across the U.S. and in several foreign countries.
Overland’s Virgin Islands Service programs allows students from grades 8-12 from across the U.S. to contribute to the St. Croix community by volunteering for the St. George Village Botanical Garden, the Women’s Coalition Children’s Center and the Virgin Islands Sustainable Farm Institute.
Over a six-week period, the different groups of students will have contributed over 360 hours of service at the St. George Village Botanical Garden. Overland Summers has helped the garden maintain the grounds, clearing vines and overgrown areas around the colonial era cemetery, raking and restoring the paths of the rainforest garden, weeding and cleaning the medicinal herb garden, as well as helping oversee children’s activities during Mango Melee.
The St. George Village Botanical Garden welcomes the enthusiastic and hard-working students of Overland Summers each year, as volunteers are an essential part of the dedicated team that maintains the 16.5 acres of history and beauty.
