Police Find Body in Burned Vehicle

A burned vehicle belonging to a missing man detectives have been seeking was found early Wednesday with a body inside, V.I. Police reported.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau on St. Croix said the burned vehicle has been identified as belonging to 57-year-old Earl Alric Charles, who was reported missing Monday.

Police said a burned body was also in the vehicle. Due to the condition of the body, police said the medical examiner will provide the final identification of the victim.

The discovery was made at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Charles was reported missing by his brother, who said he last saw the missing man at about 6 p.m. Monday, when Charles was seen driving his vehicle on the Queen Mary Highway in the vicinity of Estate Campo Rico. At about 11:30 p.m. he heard his Charles’ truck come into the yard of the residence they share and then leave. His brother said he heard an explosion and found that the house was on fire. The Fire Department responded to the fire and is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Anyone having any information on this case is urged to call detectives at 1-340-712-6077 or 1-340-712-6037, the 911 emergency dispatch center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
