Plotter Tough in TRAXCO Feature; Turn to Gold Continues Brilliance

Heavily favored Plotter held off a late challenge from According to Jesus to win the featured eighth race on TRAXCO’s Father’s Day card Sunday at the Randall “Doc” James racetrack, while Turned to Gold continued her dominance over the female division easily winning the 7-1/2 furlong seventh race for top mares and fillies.

In the featured race, down to just three runners as a result of a late scratch, Plotter and Puerto Rican Emblem broke in tandem out of the gate and raced around the clubhouse turn as one with According to Jesus three lengths off the pace. They continued their front running duel down the backstretch with neither giving an inch. However, as they approached the far turn, jockey Christian Soto Jr. pushed Plotter‘s go button and he began to pull away from Puerto Rican Emblem and Jockey Andy Hernandez.

At the same time, hoping to take advantage of the hot pace set by the two front runners, Jockey Jesus Hernandez got According to Jesus rolling around the far turn gaining with every stride. He first blew by a tiring Puerto Rican Emblem and set his sights on the race leader, Plotter, to the delight of an approving grandstand thirsting for an upset.

As they run down the stretch, According to Jesus looked as if he would run by the leader, but plotter proved to be too tough to get by. After According to Jesus got to within a half of a length of the lead, Plotter found another gear and began to pull away to win by one length at the wire. Puerto Rican Emblem was a tired third. Plotter negotiated the 7-1/2 furlongs distance in a time of 1:33.

In the 7-1/2 furlongs seventh race for top mares and fillies, Turn to Gold went wire to wire to extend her race winning streak to six at the RDJ track. “There is just no competition for her in that division (mares and fillies)”, lamented one fan. “She needs to be running against the boys or they should just give her the first place check before the race even starts if she going to be allowed to keep running against this same competition.”

Imperial Award ran a good race and made a strong move around the far turn, but the winner was too good as she exploded in the stretch to win by six lengths. Imperial held second and Holy Barbara was one length back in third. Outclassed Karma Kat was a distant fourth, 16-1/2 lengths behind Holy Barbara.

Turned to Gold recorded the fastest time for the 7-1/2 furlongs, stopping the clock at 1:32, a full second faster than the big boys in the day’s featured race.
