V.I. Long Course Swimming Championships Winners Announced

Dolphins TeamThe Virgin Islands Long Course Swimming Championships were held at the Dolphins Pool on St. Croix this past weekend May 18-19. Forty four St. Croix Dolphins swimmers competed alongside 19 St. Thomas and St. John Stingrays.
Long Course high point champions for the year were as follows:
8 and Under — Girls: (1st) Lindsay Barr, STT; (1st) Tera Diericks, STT; (3rd) Emberlyn Warehime, STX
8 and Under – Boys: (1st) Max Wilson, STT; (2nd) Michael Dizon-Bumann, STX; (3rd) Brice Richards, STX
9-10 – Girls: (1st) Kyra Odlum, STT; (2nd) Zahra Jablonsky, STT; (3rd) Erin Andrews, STX
9-10 – Boys: (1st) Ky Odlum, STT; (2nd) Hunter Tonin, STX; (3rd) Kamari Banwaree, STX
11-12 – Girls: (1st) Kate Lowe, STT; (2nd) Jelena Vialet, STX; (3rd) Lidia Boguslawska, STX
11-12 – Boys: (1st) Shaw Clements, STT; (2nd) Alex Wilson, STT; (3rd) Zackary Bozzo, STX
13-14 – Girls: (1st) Sasha Klein, STT; (1st) Chloe Hayden, STX; (3rd) Hannah Clements, STT
13-14 – Boys: (1st) Jonathan Thomas, STX; (1st) Matthew Mays, STX; (3rd) Webster Bozzo, STX
15 and over – Girls: (1st) Caylee Watson, STX; (2nd) Portia Norkaitis, STT; (3rd) JJ Washshah, STX
15 and over – Boys: (1st) Victor Torres, STX; (2nd) Tony Hendricks, STX; (3rd) Alex Lewit, STX
In addition to these outstanding finishes, there were two new V.I. records set this past weekend. St. Thomas Stingray Sasha Klein set a new record in the Girls 13-14 50m Freestyle with a time of 29.09, breaking the previous record of 29.28 set in 1980 by Kristen Knauss. She also qualified to represent the Virgin Islands on the national team at the CCCAN Swimming Championships. Dolphin swimmer Emberlyn Warehime set a new V.I. record in the 6 and under 200m Freestyle with a time of 4:53.93. JJ Washshah earned her spot on the V.I. National Swim Team to compete at the CCCAN Swimming Championships by qualifying in the Girls 15 and over 50 m Backstroke with a time of 33.28.
The Virgin Islands Swimming Federation thanks the swimmers of the St. Croix Dolphins and the St. Thomas Stingrays for their participation in the Annual Long Course Championship. The St. Thomas Swimming Association is hosting an invitational meet June 1 and 2. Teams competing include the St. Thomas Stingrays, Tortola Sharks, and Carrollton, Georgia Bluefins.
The next event on the Dolphins calendar is an invitational swim meet at the Dolphins pool on St. Croix to be held June 14-16. This meet will host over 150 swimmers, including those from the Dolphins and visiting teams from Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten and St. Eustatius.
