Man Found Dead in Vehicle

A man was found shot to death late Tuesday evening on the Tabor and Harmony road, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Police were notified of this shooting about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, but when detectives from the Major Crimes unit canvassed the neighborhood, residents reported hearing shots about two hours earlier, at 9:30 p.m.

It was the ninth homicide in the territory since the beginning of the year, the sixth on St. Thomas.

According to the initial police report, the victim – whose name has not been released by police at this time – was found in the drivers’ seat of a gray Toyota Camry. EMTs were unable to locate any vital signs on the victim. He was then taken by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center, while Forensic Crime Scene technicians collected several shell casings from the scene.

“There is no similarity between this fatal shooting and the murder that was recorded on May 20,” according to St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island Police Chief Darren Foy, referring to the Monday night shooting of 18-year-old Vasheo Donastorg. “It has come to a point where, as a community, we need to find ways to solve our own conflicts instead of resorting to gun violence. We need to resolve our issues in a less violent way.”

Foy asked the community to come forward with any information on the case. Anyone with information can call detectives at 1-340-775-3445 or 1-340-775-2410, the emergency call center at 911, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
