Unknown Assailant Shoots Man Early Wednesday

A 21-year-old man was injured Wednesday when he was pursued and shot by an unknown assailant early Wednesday in the vicinity of the Starz Night Club, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the preliminary police report, just before 5:15 a.m. officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the area of the night club. Several officers remained on the scene while other officers were dispatched to Frenchtown to investigate a report of a gunshot victim in that area.

The gunshot victim was found on a bench in Frenchtown, police said. The man was wearing a blood-stained white T-shirt and short jeans pants. The victim was taken to Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

At the hospital, the victim told police he and his girlfriend were at Starz Night Club when they heard several shots being fired. They left the area in their vehicle and noticed another vehicle, a white Toyota Rav 4, following them and shooting at them.

The victim then realized he was shot and fled the area. He stopped in the Frenchtown area near the fish market.

Medical personnel told police the victim had been shot on the right side of his upper body near his arm pit.

The witnesses told police they did not know who fired the shots and could not identify the license plates of the vehicle.

Detectives from the major crimes unit continue to investigate the case and are seeking information from anyone in the community who knows anything about what occurred. Residents can call detectives at 1-340-714-9834 or 1-340-714-5522, call 911 or call the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
