Veteran Hiram G. Towers, also known as "Chequi” or “Sonny," of Bay Garden, Christiansted, died on March 27 at the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital, on St. Croix. He was 79 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Maria B. Towers; daughters: Denise Meyers-Towers, Valencia and Lisa Towers; sons: Hiram Jr., Elvis, Fabian, Shawn and Michael Towers; grandchildren: Melissa A. Smith, Gianny, Shawn Jr., Jasheema and Jaheme Towers, Pernell Towers Jr., Jaro Joseph, Tahema Towers, Markini, Markia and J’Ada Meyers, Jermaine Brown, Curt McBean Jr., Hasheem Towers, Bernadette, Nasheka, LaDoll and La Dawn; great- grandchildren: Kaliyah and Judah Joseph, Jaeon Bryan, Jhem Meyers, Catera and Sydney McBean, Makajah, Malajah and Pernell Towers III, Dominique Lathan, Lydia Towers and Gabriella; daughter-in-law, Keisha Towers; and sons-in-law: Mark Meyers and James Randle.
He is also survived by his brother, Ronnie Towers; sister-in-law, Marysela Gonzalez; brothers-in-law: Carlos, Skabou, Marco, Miguel and Julio Gonzalez; nieces-in-law: Tamara and family, Kamilah and Victoria and family; nephews-in-law: Tupi and family, Luis, Roach and family, Richie and family, Pelo and family, Ali Baba and family, Brian and family, and Robbie and family; uncle, Kenneth Hansen and family; special friends: Luis Marrero and family, Eddie Russell and family, Roan Creque and family, Luis "Bullfoot" Encarnacion, Freddy Williams and family, American Legion Post 85, Sheila Phillip and Janet Soto; cousins: Delita, Dorothy, Shirley, Morris and Warren; as well as other relatives and friends to include: Rosie Navarro and family, Rosie Gonzalez and family, the Hansen family, the Ebesen family and the Sion farm crew.
A viewing will take place at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Christiansted, at 10:30am. Interment will be at Kingshill Cemetery, Veterans Section.
