Friends of the Park Offers Scholarships

The deadline for applying for Friends of V.I. National Park scholarships is May 3. The organization is offering one scholarship to V.I. residents studying at the university level in fields related to marine biology or natural resource management and protection.

“The Friends wants to support the endeavors of future environmentalists,” Friends program manager Karen Jarvis said.

The Friends also have a scholarship available only to children of park employees. For that scholarship, priority is given to students pursuing a degree related to cultural or natural sciences, but Jarvis said they can study in any field.

Both scholarships are for $1,000 per academic year with a maximum of four years of study.

Eligible students must live in the Virgin Islands, must have completed high school in the Virgin Islands (or currently in their senior year of high school) and must have maintained a B or 3.0 grade point average during their previous three semesters of high school or university.

Scholarship applications are available at the Friends office in Mongoose Junction shopping center or from all high school guidance counselors.

Contact Jarvis for more information at 779-4940 or kjarvis@friendsvinp.org.
