Woman Robbed of Purse

A taxi driver reported to St. Croix police Monday that she was robbed of her purse, which contained about $200, according to the V.I. Police Department.

At about 2 p.m. Monday, the taxi driver told police, there was one man in her vehicle while she was driving north on Route 69 in the Grove Place area near the shanty. She said the passenger grabbed her hand bag and held an unknown object to her side. The driver said she released her handbag to the passenger because he threatened her life.

The man then ran out of the taxi into a bushy area, she said.

The suspect is described as being slim, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with a light complexion and wearing a white T-shirt, long black pants and a black baseball cap with a red and white design on the front. He had a black backpack on his back, she said.

Officers searched for the suspect but did not locate him. Police are urging anyone who has information regarding this robbery or thinks they know the suspect to call detectives at 1-340-712-6037 or 1-340-712-607, to call 911 or the anonymous tip service Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-TIPS.
