Human Services Receives Mini Grant Award to Extend Services

The Department of Human Services (DHS) will temporarily offer supplemental programs through a $30,000 grant award received from the Edouard Foundation Inc. Mini Grant Fund for Human Services. The fund provides competitive grants for small and short term project benefit persons in need.
DHS was awarded the grant in October 2012 and will develop systems to streamline or enhance client services for senior citizens, the elderly, pre-school aged children and persons with a disability. Some of the programs will offer transportation services for the elderly via voucher, in-home and support services for those prone to hoarding, therapeutic activity through music for adults in an assisted living facility, training in horticulture for persons with a disability and workshops to train parents of pre-school aged children in effective communication with their child through reading aloud.
Registration is now open for transportation and in-home services for the elderly and senior citizens, which will begin in January 2013. Interested persons are welcome to contact the Human Services’ Adult Protective Services Unit at 774-0930, ext 4149. All other programs will also begin in early 2013 but are limited to clients who are beneficiaries of programs within the department.
The programs administered through DHS will be facilitated by the Adult Protective Services Unit, the Division of Disability and Vocational Rehabilitation, and Head Start.
